ONE. WORD. AT. A. TIME.
Like anything else: parenting, fitness, education… It’s absolutely amazing what you can accomplish one step at a time. Kara and I have built Henry Mack little by little. Between preschool pick ups and loads of laundry, we have been able to learn and create something really special to us. (And p.s. we are super excited about the new changes that are coming as we grow… stay tuned.)
Pep-talk aside, I had no intention of writing a novel at the outset- how overwhelming does that sound? I started working on The Golden Mark when I was pregnant with Hazel. I was having a hard time with my emotions and with the thought of having number 4. I was daydreaming and came up with the rough outline of this story. I began writing as the creative outlet for my feelings. Pretty soon I got too sick and tired to continue and the work document dissappeared into the bowels of my computer. Months after Hazel was born, I looked at the 15,000 words I have written and decided I liked it and wanted to just see what I could do with it. Just see! A few days a week, I dedicated 2 hours of quiet time (during preschool, after bedtime, early morning, I found the time) to work on my book. I couldn’t believe how hard it was, but also how much I loved it. It energized me. I wanted to work on it. I thought about it when I wasn’t writing.
Word by word. Page by page. Chapter by Chapter. Draft by draft. Finally it was done.
It feels so personal and I’m a bit anxious about sharing a piece of me. This story is nothing but my creation, it came from inside me and that leaves me exposed. But, I’m excited to share it because I love it. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished. And, I hope you love it.
And if you want to love me a little extra. PLEASE GIVE ME A GOOD REVIEW ON AMAZON! Thanks!
